My Sister…
A sister is something all together unto itself. We are friends by fate, entangled and intwined, connected through heritage, time, and a love built on a foundation of balance. Each brick lovingly and passionately formed with the hands of vivid, someti…mes violent, farcical, memorable, frustrating, idealizing, and idolizing…an impenatrable alliance.
I love my sister. We are totally opposite and there has always been about a year lag between our interests and ideas. Growing up, I long for the memories of camaraderie and kindred spirits… in all truth, we share one trait and that is competitiveness. Though, somewhere between our dissension, a strength grew. Mom always said, “Your sisters, you will always have each other… be nice.”.. Now, as I look back, this instruction-this seed, spoken out of hope for the future, actually took root long ago. For in my uncertainty of tomorrow and her life-plan, a love like no other ties us together. Thank-you Mom for knowing more than we did!
Because now we share so much. Two hours is no short distance and phone calls come once every two weeks, but what we have is stronger than passing time. We have a bond of family.
Thank-you, Katy for listening to my tears so long ago, for being my strength in the storm, for introducing me to my husband… For ALWAYS being my sister.
